NEC Classic Car Show 2017

Post by Jimm » Sun Oct 01, 2017 8:28 pm

The club have been invited to display at the Classic Car Show at the NEC again this year between the 10th and 12th Nov. This is the biggest show of the year and prestigious for the club to be invited to.

We have space for three cars to display this year and have made an initial selection from those that volunteered their cars earlier in the year. PMs will be going out to them soon to confirm their availability.

What we would like is volunteers to man the stand at the show. New or old are all welcome and depending on how many people are interested will depend on how long shifts etc would be. There are 5 separate parts that need people.
1. Build day on Thursday 9th Nov
2. Friday 10th press day
3. Saturday 11th Public day
4. Sunday 12th Public day
5. Sunday 12th eve break down.

If you are interested in helping you will gain free entry to the show. You will be expected to put in a certain shift on the stand and will have some time available to view the rest of the show. The more shifts, the more free time. As part of this show the club presents with its members in a uniform. This is black shoes, black trousers and a club shirt (not t-shirt). Unfortunately the club cannot cover the price of the shirt so you will be asked to purchase it. Please post your availability below.

The theme this year is Family. If anyone has suggestions of how we can use this or anything else we can put on the stand please post that below too.

I am available all four days so can help where ever needed. I could even help with set up and even provide a support vehicle by ways off a 75 Tourer to help with bringing in items if needed.

It'll be good to see some new faces on the stand this year, not only do you get to talk to the public about Coupes all day long, but the show itself is well worth a visit anyway.

You cannot book any rooms until
a) Their invites are pm'd out to them.

b) They log in and see their invites, which might be a day /a week or a months time :-|

c) They spend a coupe off day or weeks thinking it though! Hopefully not a couple months though as they will be late for the show :-| .

Can they get the time off work for the hole weekend or how can they get home and back if they cannot.
Have they just sorn their coupe for the winter on Saturday 30th September and maybe started taking it apart for winter restoration or repair work on Sunday.
Do they want to re tax their car before they get their tax refund back?
Only one more pay day to save up for a weekend away and limited where they can stay do to lack off transport/ the best early booking deals have gone!
Have they got time to prepare the car before the show?
Do I want to spend three or four days with a load off strange people I have only meet once if at all
have I really got to buy a club shirt and possible black trousers and black shoes! I am not disagreeing with this and presentation off ourselves as well as are cars is very important but it is another thing for someone to considers.

d) Will my partner let me go away for the weekend?

e) They send their response back possible with some extra questions.

f) their response is picked up and replied to concerting any extra questions.

g) They confirm they will be able to attend and if they would like to stay at the same place as use if the are rooms still available.

OR we move on to the next person on the short list which might not be able to be done until the other two cars are confirmed or not as to if they can make it or not.

Then you can maybe book some more rooms ADD :P

Just saying but hopefully it will not be that complicated but it can be and the clock is ticking.

Hopefully it will all be confirmed in a couple off days or so.

How long do we wait for someone to respond give the lack off time they may have just court the last Monarch flight to the sun for two weeks and not be able to access their pm,s Maybe next year we should have phone numbers pm,d to the club when people apply to show their car ;) .

I am only saying the above because I recently displayed a car at another indoor show for another club and had to step in with less than two weeks notice after the other 8 or 9 people that where invited either where not able to attend or did not even reply to the invitation :o .

Not that that has ever happened with this club.

What are the lead times on club shirts and are they still coming from the same place?

I'm planning on coming on the Saturday so I'll be sure to drop by and say hi.

My VVC has been off the road for nearly 6 years now, so I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow enthusiasts, as it slowly gets closer to running again!
