Garage storage ideas or bargains?

Post by stew » Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:25 pm

Are there any good deals on garage storage anywhere at the moment? I'm thinking shelving, cabinets etc. just basic storage for parts and tools really. We have some but it's filling up fast. Might get round to sorting stuff out a bit over the bank holiday to create a bit more space.

I used office cabinets in my garage, they come up on ebay quite cheap and local usually. I also bought some second hand Bott drawers, these are the same brand as Edd Chine uses on Wheeler Dealers and are fantastic quality and can be picked up very reasonable. I think I paid about £50 for the 3 drawer set.
As the cabinets were all different styles and colours, I matched the paint RAL colours to the Bott set (available on their website), I used Rustoleum paint and a 4" gloss roller to paint them with.

Very pleased with the results and I think they look great, they're also a lot cheaper, I think the office cabinets were about £60 each.

Me too, I think I've seen some pictures of Daves garage before on here, something to aspire to! Thanks for the ideas, if you folk think of any more keep them coming. The Midget has left the building now ( :( ) so I have no excuse not to tidy things up now.

Need to maximise space as well as keep things tidy. I'd love to properly board the top and put a built in ladder or stairs in but one step at a time...

Well the usual selling sites didn't have much to offer second hand locally so I had a look in Halfords and Homebase. There are some discounted tool chests / drawers in Halfodds but they didn't look very substantial. However Homebase do have a trolley tool drawer unit for £60 which seemed pretty sturdy for the price so I picked up the last one available in our local store and some basic shelving. Pretty happy with that.

The great tidy up and identification of random parts and tools I didn't know I even had commences!

I have the Halfords industrial roller cab. They are currently on a good deal again. They are bigger than a standard roller cab and built strong. The range has expanded recently to. You can now get side boxes to hang off them. After seeing mine my brother bought a set to and I intend to get some more when/if the garage build is allowed by planning...

Good to know. I did look at a couple of the industrial range in Halfords seemed much more substantial but a bit out of my budget for now.

Tidied up and quite happy with the arrangement in there for now:

Humble beginnings compared to some of you I'm sure but I managed to do a lot of work to my MG in here with about half the storage and tools I have now.

Next garage investment will either be some better lifting equipment or doing something flooring. But that's probably a way off yet.

Looking good, I love a good garage thread, check out www.garagejournal.com or www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31 for more ideas on storage etc.

Painting the walls white will totally transform it, as will adding a few more lights and power sockets.
