1994 Rover 220 Coupe Turbo

Post by James3990 »

Make: Rover
Model: 220 Coupe Turbo (197BHP)
Registered Date: 1994
Mileage: 225,000 miles

Location: West Midlands (Birmingham), UK

Thank you for viewing this advert, the car pictured was obtained 6 months ago in very poor condition and since that time, it’s had a team of dedicated Rover Coupe enthusiasts bring it back to road worthy condition to a very high standard making it one of the best examples currently out there in the market.

The car was last on the road in 2009 and has covered some serious mileage during its peak days with the speedometer showing 225,000 miles which is all backed up in previous MOT reports. The car came out the factory in March 1994 (26 Years ago) originally in Tahiti Blue and at some point in the past with a previous owner, had a full strip down (engine bay, doors, sills etc), and professional respray in white along with replacement arches on the rear of the car eliminating any rust. The colour change has been recorded with the DVLA and is correctly shown on the V5 log book. Although done to a high standard, we wanted to be honest to any new potential owner.

The original engine wasn’t present when we obtained the car, so we fitted a replacement T16 turbo engine and upgraded the ignition system to the more reliable wasted spark system eliminating the mechanical faults associated with the original mechanical distributor setup. The engine has been overhauled with a brand new cylinder head featuring all new valve stem seals, reground seats, valves and springs along with new gaskets and seals. The oil sump has also been removed allowing us to inspect the bottom end and resealing the sump to eliminate any existing leaks. The engine is completely stock and fitted with a standard Garrett T25 turbo which is electrically controlled by the ECU. The turbo is connected to a brand new downpipe, brand new catalyst converter and then a stainless steel exhaust system. Coolant system has been overhauled with a brand new water pump, thermostat and reconditioned radiator.

The interior is totally standard and in very good condition. All instruments are fully functional including the original R750 radio, dashboard clock, interior light & hydraulic arm which operates the soft opening of the glovebox. The upholstery is full leather interior in ash grey with red piping and will be supplied with brand new floor mats for the new owner.

Although previously having bodywork, the exterior paintwork was not in great shape when we received the car, therefore we had signs of rust removed, sills straightened and then booked in for a full exterior respray keeping with its new diamond white paint code. At the same time, we had both the bumper strips and front roof panel painted in gloss black and a brand new windscreen fitted.

The car is fitted with standard suspension and has a number of brand new parts replaced along the way such as front lower arms, New gearbox linkage bushes, front drop links and track rod ends.

If there’s one area that should have been upgraded from standard out the factory specifically for the turbo models, it should have been the braking system. Thankfully we obtained the car with an upgraded kit already fitted. The front brakes have been replaced with MG ZR160 discs and calipers which directly bolt on to the hubs. The discs are 282mm vented & grooved supported by EBC yellow stuff brake pads all round. The rear brakes are standard.

We obtained 5 original alloys and had them all refurbished and fitted with brand new tyres and centre caps along with new new nuts. 5mm spacers were required to offset the wheels over the brakes.

Hopefully the car speaks for itself in the pictures, however we can also guarantee how clean it is underneath after being washed, de-greased, any rust removed and then under sealed to protect the car for many more years to come.

The car has been completely serviced with all new filters and fluids - engine, gearbox, fuel & brakes.

Its currently SORN & without an MOT, however its already had a pre-MOT check and everything is fine. We are simply waiting for its new owner so they have a fresh 12 month ticket on the car.

Project Thread for the car - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=37157

This is a very sorted car done to a very high standard. Bodywork is excellent, engine runs very smoothy and absolutely every button & feature inside the car is fully functional. Quite possibly the best example out there given the amount of maintenance this car has had over the last 6 months.

We truly would challenge anyone to find us a better example, you almost wouldn't believe the mileage!

For anyone looking to travel from a distance, we have multiple videos we can forward showing a 360 tour of the car along with the engine running.

You are more than welcome to come view the car in person and we'll also be happy to get this up on a ramp so you can view the underside for yourself.

We are asking £7,850 but will consider offers.

Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate what's been done to this car.

The 'Cars For Sale' section has public access Paul but the link in the ad requires you to be logged in to see it. So if a link
of the ad is provided to another forum non members would not be able to see the build thread.
